Identifying Potentially Sensitive Content: Google Cloud Vision AI

1. Automated Analysis: When an image is uploaded to Wiply, it’s analyzed by Google Cloud Vision AI.
2. SafeSearch Feature: We utilize the SafeSearch Detection feature within this AI. SafeSearch assesses images for various types of sensitive content, assigning likelihood ratings (from VERY_UNLIKELY to VERY_LIKELY) for categories like Adult, Violence, Medical, Spoof, and Racy.
3. Focus on ‘Adult’ Content: For our primary safety filter, Wiply focuses on the ‘Adult’ classification. If an image receives a high likelihood score (e.g., LIKELY or VERY_LIKELY) in the ‘Adult’ category, our system takes specific action.

What Happens: Default Blurring with User Choice to Reveal

When Google Cloud Vision AI flags an image as likely containing adult content:

1. Blurred by Default: The image is automatically blurred when displayed on Wiply feeds, search results, or profiles. This serves as a protective layer, preventing users from viewing potentially explicit content unintentionally during general Browse.
2. User Choice to View: We believe in your right to choose. If you encounter a blurred image, you will see an indication that the content is potentially sensitive and has been blurred. You can choose to click on the blurred image.
3. Revealing the Image: Clicking on the blurred image will reveal the original, unblurred version for you to view. This action requires a conscious decision from the user, putting you in control of viewing sensitive content.

Why This ‘Blur and Reveal’ Approach?

This two-step process is designed to carefully balance safety and freedom:

• Protection from Unwanted Exposure: The default blur ensures that users are not confronted with potentially explicit images unexpectedly.
• Respecting User Autonomy: By allowing users to click and reveal the image, we respect their ability to make informed choices about the content they view.
• Content Preservation: This method aligns with our commitment to not delete user content solely based on an automated ‘Adult’ assessment. The image remains accessible, but its initial presentation is managed for safety.

Crucial Reminder: Community Guidelines Always Apply

It is essential to remember that this ‘blur and reveal’ system specifically addresses content identified as potentially ‘Adult’ by the AI.

All content uploaded to Wiply, whether blurred or not, MUST comply with our full Community Guidelines. Images violating other rules (e.g., depicting illegal activities, harassment, hate speech, violence that breaks specific rules, etc.) are subject to moderation actions, including removal, regardless of their blur status. The ‘blur and reveal’ feature is not a permission slip for content that otherwise violates Wiply’s standards.
